ApnaBundelkhand.com, NEW DELHI: The Centre is ready to foot 90% of the cost of rejuvenating water bodies in Bundelkhand, a boon for the parched, backward region.
Water resources minister Pawan Bansal has given an in-principle nod to include Bundelkhand in RRR (repair, renovation and restoration of water bodies) programme under the special region category. Presently, starvation-prone pockets like Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput (KBK) of Orissa, north-eastern states and J&K are among beneficiaries.
Pradeep Jain, minister of state for rural development, told TOI that Bansal has assured him of Centre’s immediate action if proposals were put up by UP and MP. While states normally have to bear 75% cost under RRR, the special states bear only 10% cost.
The adoption of 14 districts of UP and MP under RRR is aimed at mitigating water scarcity in the drought-hit region which is wholly d

ApnaBundelkhand.com | Transforming Bundelkhand New Delhi, Jan 22 : Madhya
Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today demanded a Rs 24,000
crore package from the Centre for development of the Bundelkhand region
and also called for speedy approval of power sector proposals for
funding through external agencies. Mr Chouhan, who met Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee here,
also demanded 17 lakh metric tonnes of coal for the cola-based power
plants in the state. Addressing newspersons here, Mr Chouhan said,
''At present, the state has been granted a package for the development
of Bundelkhand which is much less than Rs 24,000 crore that we had
asked for. In my meeting with the Prime Minister and Finance Minister I
stressed the need for funds for the development of backward areas like

ApnaBundelkhand.com | Transforming BundelkhandNEW DELHI: After the Centre announced
a development package for Bundelkhand, it’s the HRD ministry’s turn
to come out with an education package by planning to set up seven Kendriya
Vidyalayas in the entire region spread across southern UP and northern MP.
The ministry has moved the proposal for the seven KVs to the
Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC). These schools will come up in Jalaun,
Chitrakoot, Banda, Mahoba, Lalitpur, Hamirpur and Tikamgarh in MP. It was found
that the existing Kendriya Vidyalayas in the Bundelkhand region were for
children of defence personnel and the civilian population was deprived of
quality education.
Congress scion Rahul Gandhi, also a member of HRD
ministry’s standing committee, has been at the forefront of attacking the
Mayawati government for Bundelkhand’s underdevelopment. It is unlikely
that the seven KVs being planned will meet any resistance either from the
Planning Commission
