ApnaBundelkhand.com, New Delhi:The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee has decided to form a committee to monitor the Central package for Bundelkhand and make suggestions for betterment of the region. The panel will comprise grassroot-level workers and is aimed at giving them a boost.

Over the past few months, workers from the area had been alleging that though Pradeep Jain, the lone MP from the region, has been made Union Minister of State for Rural Development, he has been unable to devote much time to the Bundelkhand issue and has been neglecting the local leadership.

The situation worsened after J ... Read more »

Jain has even started making preparations and was in Lalitpur on Sunday. "The PM, along with other senior party leaders, will visit Bundelkhand during the month-end or mid-April”, said Jain.

ApnaBundelkhand.com, LUCKNOW: Despite being a repository of rich biodiversity, Uttar Pradesh is one of the poorest performers when it comes to protecting their traditional knowledge. The fact was brought to light, on Friday, by Madhu Sahni, scientist and editor of the Journal of Intellectual Property Rights. Stating that though India, as a whole, did poorly in sending patent applications, Uttar Pradesh could manage only 161 applications through all of 2006.

Minister for Agricultural Education and Research, Rajpal Tyagi asserted the "urgent need'' to share knowledge about agricultural information for the state to reap rich dividends from its traditional knowledge resources.

Addressing the inaugural session of the two-day seminar on `Fundamentals of IPRs' organised by the Uttar Pradesh Council of Agricultural Research (UPCAR), the minister also acknowledged that there were many potential kn ... Read more »

ApnaBundelkhand.com, Editorial: Bundelkhand, the mute and impoverished piece of land splayed across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, is now the site for an interesting experiment in governance. The National Informatics Centre in Jhansi, along with the district administration, has devised a nifty way to track public services — citizens can simply call or text their complaints to the administration. They receive SMS updates about the progress of the grievance, and the person in charge of fixing it. This model (which might now be taken up nationally to strengthen NREGS) has radical possibilities, in terms of talkback from the government — it eliminates layers of officialdom, and makes administrators individually responsible.

ApnaBundelkhand.com, Lucknow: Bajaj Hindusthan Ltd — the largest sugar producer of the country — will now set up a coal-based 6X660 MW (1,980 MW) power project in the Lalitpur district of parched Bundelkhand.

The Energy Task Force headed by Chief Secretary Atul Gupta has approved the proposal and the issue is likely to be placed before the state cabinet soon. A Memorandum of Understanding with the Bajaj Group is likely to be signed by April.

The project was initially planned to be executed by the NTPC in a joint venture with the state. But in 2009, the NTPC backed out citing technical reasons. Due to the water scarcity, the capacity of the p ... Read more »

ApnaBundelkhand.com, New Delhi: Seeking to capitalise on the latest central package for Bundelkhand, Congress is planning to hold a rally to be addressed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the drought-hit region to drive home the message that it cares for the backward area.

A senior Congress leader said that moves are afoot to organise a visit of the Prime Minister to Bundelkhand soon.

The Union Budget 2010-11 unveiled last week has found a special mention for the region and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has made a separate allocation of Rs 1,200 crore for Bundelkhand, which spreads over 13 districts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

In November last year, the government had announced a special package of Rs 7,266 crore for implementati ... Read more »

ApnaBundelkhand.com, Lucknow: In the parched lands of Bundelkhand, officials of the Government of India have found a success story in e-governance, which they now want to replicate across the country to strengthen the flagship scheme of the UPA Government — the NREGS (National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme).

ApanBundelkhand.com, Chennai: The increase in allocation of budget for social sector to 37% of the total plan outlay in the 2010 – 2011 Budget is appreciative. It reflects the government’s promise to the ‘Aam Admi’.

But sadly about 400 million children who constitute 41% of India’s population have once again been ignored. The share for children in the budget allocation has only a marginal increase from 3.7% last year to 4.1%.

According to the ‘Centre for Budget Governance Accountability’ (CBGA), the sector-wise composition of the 4.1% total outlay for children in the Union Budget 2010 -2011 (BE) is - 75% meant for education, 20% for Child Development, 4% for Child Health and 1% of Child Protection.’ Like the CBGA reports says, it is indeed ‘disappointing to note that the Child Budget continues to be skewed against Child Health and Child Protection.’
