ApnaBundelkhand.com, New Delhi: Congress today got a shot in the arm in Madhya Pradesh with OBC leader from Bundelkhand Akhand Pratap Singh Yadav, a former BJP Minister, joining the party.

AICC General Secretary in-charge of Madhya Pradesh B K Hariprasad said Yadav has been admitted into the party.

Congress has been out of power in Madhya Pradesh for over six years and the move is expected to strengthen the party in Bundelkhand and other parts of the state.

ApnaBundelkhand.com, New Delhi: The Centre has sanctioned Rs 13 crore to the Bundelkhand region for the development of its tourist spots. In the first phase, areas like Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Banda, Hamirpur, Mahoba and Jalaun districts will be taken up for the project.

Recently, Uttar Pradesh Tourism Director General Avnish Kumar Awasthi has written to the divisional commissioners of Jhansi and Chitrakoot and other district magistrates asking for proposals in regard to the areas to be developed. The Centre has sanctioned Rs 5 crore under the Bundelkhand Destination Development Programme and Rs 8 crore under the Circuit Development Programme.

ApnaBundelkhand.com, New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi's pet project for the water-starved Bundelkhand region has received its first tranche of additional Central assistance well in time for water-harvesting structures, ponds and dug wells to be in place before the monsoon sets in.

Last week, on the Planning Commission's recommendation, the Centre released Rs. 418.42 crore in grant under the Bundelkhand Drought Mitigation Package. Of this, Rs.196.40 crore is meant for Madhya Pradesh and Rs. 222.02 crore for Uttar Pradesh. Six districts of Madhya Pradesh and seven of Uttar Pradesh constitute the Bundelkhand region.

ApnaBundelkhand.com, Lucknow: The Centre’s package for Bundelkhand is set to improve the quality of soil and conserve water, apart from making the region much greener. As part of the package, the state Department of Forests will undertake an extensive soil conservation and water management project by treating soil and constructing a network of check dams across the seven districts of the region.

While the yearly budget for the project is estimated to be Rs 72 crore, the Centre has already released Rs 3.5 crore.

ApnaBundelkhand.com, New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh’s Bundelkhand region may soon become home to one of the world’s largest diamond mines.

Global mining firm Rio Tinto is expected to invest Rs 2,200 crore in a diamond exploration project in Chhatarpur district, 400 km northeast of Bhopal.

The Rio Tinto-owned Argyle diamond mine in Australia is the world’s biggest diamond producer, averaging an annual production of 35 million carats (7,000 kg) of diamond.

Chhatarpur’s Bunder field has about 37 million tonne of diamond reserves.
