UP govt opens door for private sector in mineral exploration
ApnaBundelkhand.com, Lucknow: With an objective to set up mineral-based
industries in
a big way, Uttar Pradesh government has now opened its
doors for
the private sector for exploration of minerals found in rugged
Sonebhadra and
Bundelkhand regions.
Uttar Pradesh is known as sugar and wheat in the country but the
southern
part of the state is rich in minerals. Geologists claim mineral reserves
worth
approximately Rs 15181.94 crore are there in the state- coal takes the
lead with
reserves worth Rs 6570 crore followed by granite worth Rs 6185.20
crore.
According to the sources here today the government is
committed to
promote private and foreign investments
in mineral development process.
''While granting lease, preference will be given to those
entrepreneurs
who are interested in establishing mineral-based industry in the
state,'' the
sources claimed.
The state government is ready to provide
assistance in
quality control in operative mines and import of technology for
entrepreneurs.
''Besides the government is even ready to prepare techno-economic feasibility reports for
mineral-based
projects to assist government agencies, financial institutions and
private investors
in project appraisal and clearance,''
the sources further added.
The Sonebhadra region in eastern Uttar
Pradesh
is rich in China Clay which is used in making ceramics, coal used in
thermal
power plants and limestone used in cement and steel industry.
In
Bundelkhand region, minerals are found in Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Mahoba and
Lalitpur areas. The rugged and barren land of Bundelkhand holds the
reserve of
bauxite, granite, rock phosphate, quartz, besides having the mines of
gold,
platinum and diamonds.
The
officials claim that among the
mineral resource available include limestone reserves nearly 260 million
tonnes,
China clay reserves of about 21 million tonnes in Sonebhadra, while
quartz
reserves to the tune of about 45 million tonnes in Jhansi are also
available for
exploration.
UP also has a reserve of 722 million tonnes of coal
spread
in the mines across Kakri, Kharia, Krishna and Shila in Sonebhdara
district.
Even Potash, an important fertilizer, is found in Banda.
