Gold and platinum reserves found in UP district
ApnaBundelkhand.com, New Delhi/Lalitpur/Lucknow: Lalitpur, rather
backward Bundelkhand district of Uttar Pradesh
bordering Madhya Pradesh, has struck gold in literal
sense as the mineral and mining experts have found underground reserves
of gold and platinum.
Confirming this to UNI, S M Farooqui, the
advisor to the state Mining and Mineral Directorate said that the gold
reserves had been found in the Girar area of Lalitpur district, about
380 km from the state capital.
An agreement
with a Canadian firm Max Rake Resources was likley to be signed next
week for mining and processing of gold. The Centre had already approved
this Rs 70 crore-gold mining project and the work would start soon after
the agreement was signed, Mr Farooqui said.
He said it was a
substantial find as far as the mineral resource research was concerned as the reserves were
found in the radius of about three km and as deep as up to 250 feet.
According
to Mr Farroqui, the project looked like an economically feasible
project and in the long run would provide employment and other
opportunities for the locals. On an avegrage, 3.5 gm of gold could be
obtained by processing about one tonne of raw material.
In reply
to a question, he said the mining and processing of platinum would be
taken up later while the further exploration for the costly metals was
already on.
Lalitpur situated in the backward region of
Bundelkhand is adjacent to Jhansi district bordering three MP districts
of Tikamgarh, Sagar and Shivpuri.
